Accommodation: Au Co Cruise
Cat Ba Island is famous for its national park, with more than half the island designated. This island, far and away the largest in the Gulf of Tonkin, is covered by a dense rainforest home to numerous indigenous species of flora and fauna. The secluded village of Viet Hai, situated in the middle of this pristine environment, is easily accessible thanks to a short walk or cycling trip and is where we are developing an organic farm which you can visit.
Bai Tu Long Bay, located a little further east of Halong Bay, is the most remote area of your voyage. The exceptional scale and variety of the geological rock formations in this area are sure to make this a future destination for cruising in the Gulf of Tonkin. A relaxing rowing boat tour through the floating village of Vung Vieng and cruising into the geological park of this bay will definitely be delightful moments for you to remember.
Halong Bay, designated a UNESCO world heritage site for its limestone rock formations, is home to about 2,000 isles and islets of different shapes and sizes, creating a truly breathtaking seascape. At its heart is the highest concentration of limestone rocks in the area and caves and grottoes abound. One of the most beautiful is the Sung Sot (Surprise) Cave. Exceptional because of its size and the shapes which have been created by millions of years of erosion, the Surprise Cave is not to be missed.

Dinning
Uniquely located on the spacious third deck of The Au Co, and designed along Feng Shui principles, our restaurant and two bars offer the perfect spaces for guests to connect with their surroundings while savouring an incredible array of fresh dishes or simply relaxing with a drink.
While designed in very different styles, both the restaurant and the bar have been created to ensure the ultimate in comfort, luxury and style.
Restaurant
The elegant and luxurious The Au Co Restaurant has been carefully arranged according to the generating principle of Wu Xing, with the dining room featuring both wood and metal elements. On arrival, guests will notice that the interior elements of the wooden furniture and polished wooden floor help air flow, harmonizing the natural light and wind with the surrounding landscape and mountains, giving guests the feeling of being immersed in nature, satisfying the senses of sight and taste.
Meanwhile, metal elements in the dining room, representing fire, are minimized by reducing kitchen and other electrical appliances in the room, which would just distract from the meal. According to the principle that water nourishes wood, the sight of the Gulf’s water and the sound of soft music are simply used to create a calm, gentle atmosphere, which should stimulate guests’ appetites.
Bar
The terrace deck of the Au Co Cruise features not one, but two wide, open-air bars; again designed with the Feng Shui principle of Yang - Movement - Flexibility, as a counterpoint to the Yin - neutral - Earth element. The spacious bars, with their light rattan furniture are the perfect place to relax and while away your day accompanied by a range of food, beverages, and snacks. Alternatively, they are the place to meet after a busy day of activities for a pre-dinner cocktail as the sun sets over the Gulf of Tonkin.
The Au Co Bar stocks a full complement of aperitifs, wines, cocktails, drinks and snacks, and serves visitors until late at night.
If guests are seeking more privacy and comfort each cabin has its own in-cabin refrigerator, which we can stock with your choice of beverages.
Spa
For complete stress relief, why not pamper yourself with a therapeutic massage either in the tranquility of the Spa room or in the open-air Spa area – drifting off into bliss as the cruise drifts along.
Jacuzzi
After an exciting day of adventurous activities and excursions what better way to relax and unwind than in The Au Co’s open-air Jacuzzi. Feel any aches or pains simply drift away as you sip a cocktail while taking in the fantastic views of the seascape as you voyage at sunset. Reserve the open-air Jacuzzi together with our on-board spa services.
Safety on board
The boat itself was designed by the Industrial Ship Designing Institute and is inspected by the local Maritime Registration Authority annually and certified accordingly. It is the only steel boat in Halong Bay built to meet seafaring standards (though it is registered as a river going craft). It is designed to be balanced even with a 23-degree list. The Vietnamese Marine Authorities certify all materials and equipment used in the construction of the boat construction from the steel, electrical cables and generators. Every vessel is fitted with professional marine safety equipment: VHF Radio, GPS Plotting, Two-way radios, Water Ingress Alarm System, Anti-sinking Pump System, Fire Alarm system System and Fire Extinguishers. The Au Co boats have double the safety coefficient required by the authorities.
All The Au Co vessels operate under professional daily technical supervision and ongoing maintenance schedules. Each vessel maintenance schedule includes regular monthly and bi-annual routine maintenance and an annual dry-docking to ensure all aspects of seaworthiness and accommodation are in good condition.
All The Au Co vessels are covered with maximum vessel insurance based on the vessel certification, including total Crew and Passenger capacity.
- The Au Co places the highest priority on the safety and security of our vessels and all Passengers, Crew and Staff onboard.
- All The Au Co vessels are commanded by a Captain, and manned by a professional Deck Crew and Cruise Staff. All Crew and Staff have training certificates or recognized expertise accredited by the relevant Vietnamese Government Authorities.
